More importantly though, politics.
To my American citizen born and bred in England eyes, the jist of it is that Obama is a democrat so he stands for the things I believe in such as a woman's right to choose, he offers tax breaks to 95% of the country contrary to McCain's claims to be the one to lower taxes (he aims to lower taxes for the big corporations rather than the average middle class 'joe sixpack' which is what Obama is doing) and when the biggest problem people were having with him was that he was inexperienced in foreign policy (not counting the ridiculous view that because he is 'muslim', a 'terrorist' or just plain black he would be unfit for the job) he listened to those views and brought Joe Biden onto his ticket, bringing his foreign policy experience on board. He also seems to have actual concrete plans for helping with the economic crisis rather than spouting "I know what to do" and not giving any details as McCain does. Also on that note, McCain made a comment that the economic had a sound foundation the morning of the day when all hell broke loose, so that doesn't really instill confidence in me that he knows what he's talking about. Obama is genuinely concerned about and concentrates on everyone having a chance to achieve that elusive American Dream by offering a decent health care plan, plans to make schools more efficient and college more accessible and affordable and giving a damn about clean energy and becoming self-sufficicent (as opposed to the Drill, Baby, Drill mantra that McCain/Palin tout which has the potential to do more harm than good and is a temporary fix to a permanent deeper issue).
On the other hand we have McCain who calls himself a maverick but 95% of the time he votes the same way as Bush, saw the hubbub surrounding Hillary Clinton and chose a little known, inexperienced woman to be his VP (and if you haven't heard about what a fool Sarah Palin is on any media outlet then I'm surprised: Youtube doesn't need to make a spoof for her, she makes herself look like an idiot without any help) and has turned to negative campaigning so that even his early supporters have lost respect for him.
Yes I'm biased but it doesn't mean that those aren't the facts as they currently stand as well as showing the outside observation of (a part of) the world. The fact that everyone was so pleased that Palin made it through the one VP debate without screwing up just goes to show how low the bar was set and I don't want to think that in the (not entirely unlikely) event that McCain doesn't make it through his 4 years that that will be our president.
TLDR: What the heck America? Why you so crazy? Bush pretty much tore your (our?) country apart and it's taken you this long to see that McSame is not the breath of fresh air that is so desparately needed? Obama/Biden '08
Damn me not being able to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime presidential election because I am overseas!
